ISRO has launched their own edition of a mapping application similar to Google Earth. Bhuvan, which is a sanskrit word, mean Earth.
ISRO Bhuvan was launched on the occasion of 90th birth anniversary of Vikram Sarabhai who is considered to be the father of Indian space program. National Remote Sensing Agency played an important role in the creation of this product.
They used data provided by satellites including Resourcesat-1 to get the best possible imagery for India.
ISRO claims that the application can provide imagery of up to 10 metres for major Indian cities compared to 200 meters provided by Google Earth.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WHOLE TEAM OF ISRO.
I am a fan of Maps and visit maps.google.com or wikimapia.org very often, almost everyday.
Although I have not used Bhuvan yet but reading that I can see 3D mapping and Indian cities as close as 10mts, I am overwhelmed.
I am Proud. We need to build a nation with lot of Intellectual Capital. Providing Services is also good for oureconomy but R&D and IPRs will hold the future for us And Lead the World from the front.
Kudos to the Team! and Thank you very much.
Regards,
Parvez
